Speaking of happy fannish things, [personal profile] via_ostiense has gone and recorded a podfic of "The Element of Surmise", the first casefic in Boston Marriage. It is over two hours long, and I can't imagine how much time must be required for all the recording and editing. (Also, she's working on the rest of the story, and a bit of quick arithmetic tells me it'll probably come in at about seven and a half hours. !)

I am thrilled about this! I kind of don't know what to do with myself. That's four people, now, who have used their creative talents to expand what I wrote, and that's not even counting my lovely betas.

The temporary link is up at her post.

Work today was exhausting, as apparently one of my tasks for the summer is convincing 150 self-directed and opinionated people to change the way they do their jobs. Nicely.

Too worn out to write with any focus. I keep getting distracted by research for the current project, then sidetracked into research that clearly won't fit into the current project, and then I have to admit to myself that the plotting I've been doing during the commute is taking on a life of its own and threatening to eat me alive. Which means it's probably time to make a confession.

Someday I will learn to leave well enough alone.

Jessica Hynes as Jo Watson, Claudia Black as Sherlock Holmes, text is "Suite for Strings and Steel"

Today is not that day.

Boston Marriage, it seems, comprised parts 1-3 of...rather more than that. I'd give the current estimate, except I'm experiencing fear of literary commitment and don't want to wind up with egg on my face.

I actually really want to provide all sorts of links to the research, because it's fascinating stuff if that's the sort of thing you find fascinating, but it's all very spoilery, so I'll refrain for the time being. Though, if you know of any good resources on end-of-life care in the UK and the legal issues surrounding it, do drop me a link.

(In other news, photoshopping makes me feel as though I have control over my life. Not sure what that says about me. That's Jessica Hynes--image from her imdb profile--and Claudia Black, though I can't find a direct link to the source image for her.)
